NAMES
WORTH
KNOWING
At Sankofa Café, our meals are named in homage to filmmakers whose work nourishes our souls as deeply as the dishes we craft nourish our bodies.
We celebrate Larry Clark for his raw honesty, the electric grit in his vision that forces us to feel what others might look away from. We honor Kathleen Collins for the luminous intimacy of her stories—each moment she reveals is a tender, radical act of self-love and reflection. And we hold Ousmane Sembène as the moral architect of cinema; his stories, forged in the fire of justice, history, and community, remind us that to feed the body without feeding the spirit is half a hunger.
So, when you order, when you taste, you are partaking in more than flavor. You are sharing in legacy, courage, memory, beauty and the transformation that happens when art, story, and nourishment are served at the same table.
